Cannons select Heim in supplemental draft
by Staff Report/
The Cannons selected Pat Heim with their first-round pick (No. 3 overall) as Major League Lacrosse and its teams completed the 2010 Supplemental Draft today, with 74 players added to rosters.
The Cannons hope Heim will take some midfield pressure off Paul Rabil. The Penn State product skipped last season but had two productive seasons in Chicago in 2007 and '08, compiling 39 points in 23 games.
Casey Powell was selected first overall by the Chicago Machine, and the Blazers’ Dan Dawson was chosen second overall by Toronto.

Up to five more players (mostly local guys) can be picked up Monday to fill out 40-man roster
"We looked at the draft as a way to build our depth in the midfield with guys who can hopefully create offense,’’ said Cannons GM Mark Kastrud. “It's a midfield-dominated league.
"The supplemental draft is a lot of gambles. It's a lot of guys where you pick them and think they can work out if they are healthy and want to play in the league. If that happens, you have a great pick.’’
When asked about local players Stone and Ajemian, Kastrud said: "You like to pick up a few local guys. Then if they are able to make it, and their ability translates to the league, you have a local hero people around here really look forward to seeing. Kind of like what we have now with Sean Morris."
