Stone rebounds well at Blazers' camp
by Staff Report/
The Blazers’ first full-squad training sessions in preparation for the 2010 season were eventful.
• After struggling a bit Friday night, Mike Stone of Wellesley, Mass., scored five goals Saturday in a scrimmage in Revere. A sixth-round draft pick this season, Stone was a three-time All-America midfielder at Middlebury. Coach Tom Ryan sees Stone, an offensive middie in college, as a candidate for a spot as a righthanded transition player.
• Travis Brown, a practice squad player last year, was cut, leaving John Ortolani (Billerica, Mass.) as the only faceoff specialist on the team. Ryan said the team is looking for another faceoff specialist. The Blazers traded Jay Thorimbert to Minnesota for a 2011 second-round draft pick in the offseason.
• During a 2-on-2 pick-and-roll drill Friday, Sean Morris (Marshfield, Mass.) was stuck by Paul Dawson and required several stitches, on his nose. He participated in shooting drills Saturday but avoided contact.
