Sacred Heart players charged with sexual assault conspiracy

by Staff Report/

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Three Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse players were charged Sunday with conspiring to sexually assault a female student in a dorm room, the Associated Press reported.

One of the players charged was freshman Zachari Triner, 18, of Marshfield, Mass.

A lawyer for Timothy Sanders of Ashburn, Va., told the AP that accusations of a sexual assault during what was an alcohol-fueled incident were grossly exaggerated. Wayne Keeney said Sanders, 19, was having consensual sex with an 18-year-old when teammates Nicholas Travers, 18, of Smithtown, N.Y., and Triner arrived on the scene as part of a prank.

Keeney told the AP that neither Travers nor Triner had sexual contact with the woman. He also said that the three players have been suspended from school and the lacrosse team.
