Flynn back in as Billerica coach
by Staff Report/
To replace a coach who went 99-33 over seven seasons and took his team to the state championship game in 2008, Billerica (Mass.) High turned to a coach who led his team to a state title in 2001.
Craig Flynn is the new Billerica coach, replacing Chris Burns, the Boston Herald reported.
Burns resigned in September after a cell phone video surfaced showing him in a boxing match with one of his players in the locker room, according to a published report.
“We’ve very excited that coach Flynn has opted to return and take the reins of our program,” athletic director Dave Lezenski told the Herald. “He’s obviously very well educated and has great relationships within the district, and to have a person of his caliber express a desire to return is a great thing for our program.”
Flynn led Billerica for three seasons, during which his teams compiled a 50-15 record. Billerica went 24-1 under Flynn in 2001.
