Report: Billerica's Burns out after fight

by Staff Report/

Chris Burns, boys lacrosse coach at Billerica (Mass.) High School, resigned after a cell phone video surfaced showing him in a boxing match with one of his players in the locker room, according to a published report.

The shaky video, shot May 15 after Billerica's victory over Andover, allegedly shows Burns and a sophomore player in boxing gear going head-to-head while being cheered on by the rest of the team.

The Boston Herald reported that parents collected 643 signatures on a petition that requested school officials not punish Burns for “horseplay.”

Burns, who is 99-33 in seven years at Billerica, was the Eastern Massachusetts’ Division 1 Lacrosse Coach of the Year in 2008 after leading the Indians to the Division 1 state championship game, where they lost to Duxbury, 14-13.
