PRAGUE - The Massachusetts contingent helped make Women's World Cup history Saturday.
Westwood's Kristen Kjellman and Braintree's Sarah Albrecht each scored a hat trick and added three assists, and Needham's Sarah Bullard scored twice as the US routed Japan, 26-12.
The combined 38 goals broke a tournament record that lasted one day, breaking the mark set Friday when Ireland defeated the Netherlands, 23-13.
Linsdey Munday of Mountain Lakes, N.J., led all scorers with six goals and five assists.
The U.S. (3-0) takes on defending world champ Australia Monday.
