Blazers edged by Knighthawks

The Boston Blazers fell to the Rochester Knighthawks, 11-10, at the Blue Cross Center in Rochester, N.Y., on Saturday night. Boston started strong with three straight goals in the first quarter by captain Dan Dawson, Brenden Thenhaus, and Daryl Veltman but were unable to keep the momentum going as Rochester scored eight second-half goals.
Neither team lead by more than two throughout the entire match. Veltman led Boston with three goals and three assists. Thenhaus recorded two goals and one assist while Dawson put up five assists, moving him to 56 assists on the season. Dawson is 16 assists behind Josh Sanderson's single-season league record set in 2005.
Rochester was led by veteran Gary Gait, who recorded two goals and three assists, and Scott Evans, who had two goals and two assists. Steve Toll led the Knighthawks defensively with 19 loose balls.
Blazers goaltender Anthony Cosmo finished with 34 saves on 45 shots on goal. Knighthawk Pat O'Toole recorded 36 saves on 46 shots on goal.
The Blazers, coming off a bye the previous week, move to 7-5 in the East. Boston faces the Toronto Rock on Friday at the Air Canada Centre. The Blazers' next home game, against the Buffalo Bandits, is Saturday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m. at the TD Banknorth Garden.
